Hi, I'm Dave DeWitt, and today I'd like to talk about the age of the earth, but first
0:09
we need to establish firmly that the Bible, both Old and New Testament, declare that the
0:14
earth was created by God at a point in time. It did not evolve over some long period of
0:19
time. I want to do two things here. First, I want to read several passages from the Bible
0:25
that state clearly that the earth was created by God at a certain time. Then second, I'll
0:30
give you five specific observations that prove conclusively that the earth was not very old.
0:38
Okay, so first, here's some biblical passages. The first one, of course, is Genesis 1.1,
0:45
in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. So the earth had a beginning. It
0:50
did not evolve. It was created by God. Now in Genesis 2.1, thus the heavens and the
0:56
earth were completed and all their hosts. And by the seventh day God completed his work
1:03
which he had done and rested on the seventh day of the work which he had done. So now
1:09
we see that the work is completed. It's not something that's ongoing or evolving. It's
1:15
completed. And it was done at some point in time, and it was completed at that time.
1:23
Also notice that God rested on the seventh day, thus creating a seven-day workweek recognized
1:29
by every society all over the world. You might ask those society, why would you have a seven-day
1:34
workweek? Everybody's got a seven-day workweek. The only answer for that is creation. Seven-day
1:41
creation, God rested on the Sabbath, on the seventh, creating a Sabbath.
1:45
Psalm 33, 6 to 9, by the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth
1:51
all their hosts. He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap and puts the deep in storehouses. Let
1:58
all the earth fear the Lord. Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him,
2:02
for he spoke and it came to be he commanded, and it stood firm. So neither the heavens nor
2:10
the earth evolved. They were spoken into existence by the mouth of God. Now Psalm 104,
2:17
24, and 25, O Lord, how manifold are your works! In wisdom you've made them all. The earth is
2:25
full of your creatures. There is the sea, great and wide, which teems with creatures innumerable,
2:32
living things, both small and great. Isaiah 40, 21 and 22, Do you not know? Have you not heard?
2:41
Has it not been declared to you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the
2:46
foundations of the earth? It's he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are
2:52
like grasshoppers, who stretches out the heavens like a curtain and spreads them out like a tent
2:59
to dwell in. Then Isaiah 40, 28, Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the
3:06
everlasting God, the creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary. His
3:12
understanding is inscrutable. Then over to Isaiah 45, 18, For thus says the Lord who created the
3:21
heavens, He is God who formed the earth and made it. He established it. He did not create it empty.
3:30
He formed it to be inhabited. I'm the Lord, and there is no other. In Revelation 4, 11,
3:38
the heavenly praise is, Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power.
3:44
For you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created. The New Testament also
3:51
specifies Jesus as the agent of creation. John 1, 1-3, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word
3:59
was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through
4:05
him, and without him not anything made that was made. Colossians 1, 16-17, For by him all things
4:15
were created, heavens and earth, visible, invisible, whether thrones or dominions, rulers or authorities.
4:21
All things were created through him and for him, and he's before all things, and in him all things
4:28
hold together. So clearly the Bible declares that the world was created by God at a certain point
4:35
in time. It did not evolve over a long period of time. But when was that time? If you add up all
4:43
the ages given in the Bible, you arrive at the year 4004 B.C. for creation. Some believe there
4:50
are gaps in the biblical genealogies and suggest a date for creation would be more like 10,000 B.C.
4:58
But that's irrelevant to the evolutionists. Evolution claims that the earth is 4.5
5:04
billion years old. They claim that the Big Bang happened 13.8 billion years ago. Although the
5:12
images received from the new James Webb telescope have caused many scientists to question the Big
5:18
Bang Theory altogether. Nonetheless, they hang on to the claim that the earth is 4.5 billion years old.
5:26
If that were true, then many things we observe don't make sense. Here's five easy-to-remember
5:32
reasons why the earth cannot be as old as the evolutionists say it is. Number one,
5:39
there's not enough salt in the sea. If the earth was 4.5 billion years old, its oceans should be
5:46
filled with vastly more salt than the oceans contain today. Some 450 million tons of sodium
5:55
mixes into the ocean water each year, and only 122 million tons, that's 27% of it, is removed by
6:03
other natural processes. Now over 4.5 billion years, we would expect the oceans to be like
6:09
the Great Salt Lake or the Dead Sea, where there's no life at all. The actual amount of salt in the
6:16
oceans is what we might expect after thousands, not billions of years. Number two, there's not
6:25
enough silt in the ocean floor. Every year, water and wind erode about 20 billion tons of dirt and
6:32
rock debris from the continents and deposit them into the oceans. Water evaporates from the oceans
6:39
and other bodies of water. Then the water vapor condenses over the land in the form of rain. The
6:46
rain falls on the land, washing the dirt and debris into the rivers and streams, all of which eventually
6:52
flow into the ocean, depositing 20 billion tons of dirt and rock debris. If the evolutionists are
7:00
correct, the Mississippi River would have filled the Gulf of Mexico or Gulf of America, if you please,
7:05
with soil. Nile River would have filled the Mediterranean Sea. The tiny deltas we see
7:13
today at the mouth of the Mississippi and the Nile Rivers are more indicative of thousands of years
7:18
of sediment deposits, not millions and certainly not 4.5 billion years of soil deposited into the
7:24
oceans. Number three, there's not enough topsoil. The same argument as above applies to topsoil.
7:33
The topsoil globally reflects thousands, not millions, certainly not billions of years of
7:38
decomposition. For example, the Amazon jungle has dense foliage that dies and adds to the topsoil
7:46
regularly. And it should be very thick, yet it's amazingly thin. Ecologists and soil conservationists
7:57
are concerned about mudslides and erosion problems along the Nile,
8:01
where there's been reforesting that's not been replaced, because the topsoil's so thin.
8:08
If the earth was around 4.5 billions, there should be at least hundreds of meters of topsoil
8:14
along the Amazon. Number four, there's not enough people on the earth. The world population currently
8:21
doubles every 40 years or so. For example, the world population in 1960 was 3.022 billion people,
8:31
and in the year 2000, the population was 6.162 billion. So it went from 3 billion to 6 billion.
8:40
In 2020, the population was 7.8 billion. Today's population is over 8 billion, just about right for
8:48
the 4,500 years since Noah's flood. But if we assume that humans have been around for 50,000 years,
8:57
and if we were to use the known standard calculations of population growth, there would
9:03
have been 332 doublings, and the world's population today would be a staggering figure,
9:10
one followed by a hundred zeros. This figure is truly unimaginable. It should also be noted that
9:19
the current evolving estimate of how long humans, Homo sapiens, have been on the earth is about
9:24
300,000 years. Modern Homo sapiens, 160,000 years. Neanderthals, however, two to three million
9:33
years. Well, which would have made the number currently on earth incredibly huge. And by the
9:40
way, where'd all the Neanderthals go? If they evolved from apes because they were more able
9:46
to survive by survival of the fittest, why do we not have them today? We still have apes. Anyway,
9:53
I digress. The point is that the earth should be covered with humans standing nose to nose,
10:00
and the fossil record should be packed full of human and Neanderthal fossils.
10:06
The evolution answer is that the world's ancient population was suddenly decreased by war,
10:12
disease, or natural disasters. But this has already been figured into the equation.
10:18
When there's a sudden decrease in population by, say, a war or a disaster, when the war or
10:25
disaster is over, the population generally will increase at a higher rate, thus making the
10:31
population growth up pretty much of an even line. War, disease, natural disasters are part of the
10:38
population doubling over 40 years. Number five, the earth's magnetic field is decaying too fast.
10:47
The earth is surrounded by a magnetic field that shields the earth from destructive and
10:51
radioactive particles that come from the sun. It's called the solar wind. This magnetic field
10:58
is deteriorating. According to the Institute of Creation Research, the average intensity of the
11:05
earth's magnetic field has decreased exponentially by about 7% since the first careful measurements
11:12
were made in 1829. The earth's current magnetic field has weakened by 15% over the last 200 years,
11:21
and it's currently weakening at 5% per decade. This is according to LiveScience.com. If you
11:30
project this forward, we'll lose our protection from the sun's radiation in hundreds,
11:38
not to a few thousand years, not millions of years. And if you project it backwards in time,
11:45
the magnetic field would be so strong it would kill all intelligent life in about 50,000 years.
11:52
Projecting this back for a fraction of the 4.5 billions of years the evolutionists say the earth
11:59
existed would not allow any life to exist, let alone evolve. So there are five easy-to-remember
12:06
problems with the evolution idea of a 4.5 billion-year-old earth. Number one, not enough
12:12
salt in the sea. Number two, not enough silt in the ocean floor. Number three, not enough topsoil.
12:19
Number four, not enough people on the earth. And number five, earth's magnetic field is decaying
12:26
too fast. And if you project that back in time, you have too strong a magnetic field for life to
12:32
exist. Well, thanks for listening. If you'd like a written form of this material, it's available on
