Hi, I'm Dave DeWitt, and today I'd like to talk about the Bible and transgenderism.
0:11
Ray Schuyler, a first-grade teacher at the Brooke Roslindale School, a charter school
0:16
in Boston, told four- and five-year-olds, she, now he, transgender, told them, quote,
0:26
The way I like to describe it is like wearing a super itchy sweater.
0:32
The longer you wear it, the itchier it gets, and the only way to make it stop is to let
0:37
people know the person you really are.
0:41
It was like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulder, and I had the freedom to be who
0:46
I truly am, close quote.
0:50
The Bible does not directly discuss transgenderism, nor does any ancient text I'm aware of.
0:57
But the Bible has a lot to say about human sexuality and gender identity, which can be
1:03
directly applied to the modern concept of transgenderism.
1:07
According to the New Oxford American Dictionary, transgender is an, quote, adjective denoting
1:14
or relating to a person whose sense of personal identity and gender does not correspond with
1:21
their birth sex, close quote.
1:25
There are currently 1.6 million adults 18 and older and youth 13 to 17 identifying as
1:34
transgender in the United States, or 0.6% of those ages 13 and older.
1:44
Data also shows that 82% of transgender individuals have considered killing themselves, 40% have
1:53
attempted suicide.
1:57
Let's look at what the Bible says.
2:00
Genesis 1, 26 and 27.
2:03
Then God said, let us make man in our image according to our likeness.
2:09
God created man in his own image.
2:11
In the image of God, he created them.
2:14
Male and female, he created them.
2:17
Then in Matthew 19, 45, we have recorded the words of Jesus.
2:22
Jesus answered and said, have you not read that he who created them from the beginning
2:29
made them male and female and said, for this reason a man shall leave his father and his
2:34
mother and be joined to his wife and the two shall become one flesh.
2:40
Notice Moses, who wrote Genesis, told us that humans were created in two distinct sexes.
2:50
Sexual identity is part of our physical makeup.
2:53
Typical biological male individuals have an X and a Y chromosome.
2:59
Those who are biologically female have two X chromosomes.
3:04
God created us male and female, not just externally, but down to our DNA genetic code internally.
3:12
Also, it's common for some intellectually challenged speakers to say something like
3:18
Jesus had nothing to say about homosexuality or transgenderism.
3:23
Actually, the most decisive point made in the Bible against sexual deviation, such as
3:30
homosexuality and transgenderism, comes from Jesus.
3:35
Jesus went back to creation for identification.
3:39
He said he who has created them from the beginning made them male and female.
3:45
Jesus did not go to any deviations that might have been introduced by the fall or ancient
3:53
cultures or other genetic anomalies.
3:56
He went back to the beginning, which can only equate gender preference with sexual identity.
4:05
Jesus' statement slams the door shut on the acceptability of any sexual perversion
4:12
from the biological male or female identification established at birth.
4:19
Consider the predetermination of our sexual identity.
4:23
Isaiah 44, 2,
4:25
Thus says the Lord who made you and formed you from the womb.
4:30
Jeremiah 1, 5,
4:32
Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.
4:35
Psalm 139, 13 to 16,
4:38
For you formed my inward parts, you wove me in my mother's womb.
4:44
Your eyes have seen my unformed substance, and in your book they were all written, the
4:49
days that were ordained for me, when as yet there were none of them.
4:54
Notice, number one, it's clearly not the intention of the biblical author to separate our social
5:03
or psychological gender preference from our biological sexual identity, which has been
5:09
predetermined by God and formed in the womb.
5:15
And to disagree with God is always a bad idea.
5:18
And number two, whether the transgender person believes in evolution or not, the foundation
5:26
of transgenderism is evolution.
5:29
The whole idea of transgenderism is based on the progressive evolution religion, which
5:36
does not consider the existence of sin or that a sovereign God predetermined our sexual
5:43
identity.
5:44
Consider the example I began with.
5:47
The girl who became a boy who became a man, transgender, first grade teacher, does not
5:53
consider the possibility that his itchy sweater is a tendency to sin.
5:59
For example, suppose I was born with a tendency toward sinful perversion, like say alcoholism
6:06
or gluttony or pedophilia or kleptomania.
6:11
Not being able to get drunk, eat to obesity, view child pornography or steal things would
6:18
seem like, as the transgender teacher put it, wearing an itchy sweater.
6:25
The itchiness would be relieved when I committed the sin, especially if society would accept
6:31
me for who I am rather than bullying me.
6:35
But the transgender teacher I quoted does not consider his itchiness to be sin.
6:42
He acts as if he just evolved into being who he is.
6:49
Now let's see what the Bible says about male and female identity.
6:54
The Bible is clear that a man and a woman are to be outwardly, obviously, and observably
7:00
distinct.
7:01
Men and women never do anything that would confuse sexual identity of the way they were
7:09
born.
7:12
Deuteronomy 22, verse 5, a woman shall not wear a man's clothing, nor a man shall put
7:19
on a woman's clothing, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord your
7:25
God.
7:26
1 Corinthians 11, 14, and 15, does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has
7:34
long hair, it's a dishonor to him, but if a woman has long hair, it's a glory to her,
7:41
for her hair is given to her as a covering.
7:45
First Timothy 2.9, likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing modestly
7:53
and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments.
8:00
Notice one, cross-dressing was strictly forbidden by the Mosaic law.
8:08
It was an abomination to the Lord your God.
8:11
The basic point is that men and women should never separate their gender preference from
8:16
their biological sexual orientation.
8:21
The basis of hair length argument is that men and women should be easily identifiable
8:28
by hair length alone.
8:30
To violate this was to go against what nature itself teaches you, which includes the idea
8:38
of having a gender preference that appears to be different from our biological sexual
8:45
preference.
8:46
3.
8:47
Women's clothing and jewelry were to be proper in the sense that they best adorned the woman.
8:55
Appropriate clothing was proper when it made the woman look like a woman.
9:00
The basic instruction is that women should have a gender preference which adorns their
9:06
sexual identity.
9:09
First Timothy 2.9 is in the New Testament version of Deuteronomy 22.5.
9:18
Here's some Christian arguments made in support of transgenderism along with my answers.
9:25
Number one, progressive Christians claim we should not just quote the Bible and ignore
9:31
science.
9:33
My answer, science today is not the scientific method but a tool or a trick of progressives
9:42
where facts are warped to fit the agenda.
9:47
But even if the scientific method could trace deviant tendencies to the genetic condition
9:54
of one's birth, it does not mean those tendencies are good.
9:59
The Bible, not scientifically declared biological tendencies, determines what's right and wrong.
10:07
Remember I'm intentionally repeating this again.
10:11
Jesus went back to creation in the Garden of Eden to describe male and female.
10:18
Second progressive Christians claim we're living in a fallen cursed world where we're
10:25
born with a sin nature which could include transgender tendencies that require love and
10:31
compassion, not criticism and condemnation.
10:36
My answer, there are birth defects that can orient us toward sin, but sin must be confessed
10:44
and defects need to be treated, repaired, altered, or cured, not tolerated, normalized,
10:52
or encouraged.
10:55
Children who are thinking about changing their gender identity should be guided by parents
11:00
away from the perverted, sinful, destructive, foolish behavior.
11:07
Isaiah 520, woe to those who are called good evil and evil good.
11:13
Proverbs 27.5, better is open rebuke than love that is concealed.
11:20
Proverbs 529, Peter and the apostles answered, we must obey God rather than men.
11:27
Ephesians 415, speaking the truth in love.
11:32
First Thessalonians 521 and 22, hold fast to that which is good, abstain from every
11:39
form of evil.
11:42
We're all sinners, Romans 3.23, continually Romans 7.18-25, who need to confess our sins
11:51
regularly in 1 John 1.89.
11:55
We should always forgive people who repent, but we should not encourage their sin by accepting
12:03
it as normal.
12:05
First John 2.15-17, do not love the world or the things of the world.
12:12
If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
12:16
For all that's in the world, the desires of the flesh, the desires of the eyes, the
12:20
pride of life, is not from the Father, but it's from the world, and the world's passing
12:26
away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.
12:34
Progressive Christians also claim Deuteronomy 22.5 was part of the Mosaic Law, and Christ
12:42
ended the law.
12:44
My answer, as a reminder, the passage says in Deuteronomy 22.5, a woman shall not wear
12:51
a man's clothing, nor shall a man put on a woman's clothing, for whoever does these
12:57
things is an abomination to the Lord your God.
13:01
This passage is devastating to the transgender position.
13:06
Their explanation ignores the basic principle of interpretation and applying anything.
13:12
We do not keep the Mosaic Law, we apply the Mosaic Law.
13:18
Interpretation is about what is in the mind of the human author.
13:22
Application is about what's in the mind of God, and God says cross-dressing is an abomination.
13:29
So what do you think God thinks about transgenderism?
13:33
Progressive Christians claim Genesis 2 tells us Adam was created a non-gendered human.
13:42
My answer, this point is so silly it's hard to believe they mention it.
13:48
It shows how desperate they are to find justification for the perversion.
13:52
Adam was a male who needed a female helpmate.
13:57
In Genesis 2.18, the Lord said it's not good for the man to be alone, I'll make a helper
14:03
suitable for him.
14:05
Progressive Christians claim transgender people have existed across the cultures of time,
14:12
dating back thousands of years.
14:15
My answer, really?
14:17
How many transgender people did your grandfather know?
14:21
How about your father?
14:23
How many transgenders were there in your father's secondary or junior high school?
14:28
The idea that they were all staying in the closet for fear of social persecution is a
14:35
card they throw at every progressive perversion.
14:40
The problem with the argument is they are accepted, even promoted by society today.
14:48
Conclusion Sexual perversions today are on hyperdrive.
14:55
In the Western world before the turn of the century, biblical morality was more or less
15:03
seen as a positive thing by the general society.
15:08
For example, I would say since the founding of America until about the year 2000, biblical
15:14
morality was pretty much the same as that of the general secular society.
15:21
When I went to school in the 1960s, the morality of the Bible was generally the morality assumed
15:27
in the classroom.
15:29
Today that same morality is being attacked in the classroom.
15:34
Many will say there have been people with LGBTQ and so on tendencies all through history,
15:42
maybe, but they were never promoted as normal, natural, and accepted for the general society.
15:52
Today you're some sort of phobic if you do not promote the perversion.
15:58
Deviation from male-female identity was consistently condemned in the Bible.
16:05
In the Old Testament, the Canaanites and later the Israelites were removed from the land
16:10
because of their idolatry and their sexual perversion.
16:15
The apostles also emphasized the condemnation of sexual sins.
16:21
Paul said, take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead even expose them.
16:30
But the greatest and most clear condemnation of all deviation from male-female identity
16:37
comes from Jesus.
16:40
In one statement, Jesus eliminated all LGBTQ-type possibilities.
16:47
Jesus went back to the beginning, back to the creation of the Garden of Eden to define
16:54
sexual identity and sexual preference.
16:57
As a conclusion, I'll read it again, Matthew 19, 4 and 5.
17:03
Jesus said, have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them
17:08
male and female?
17:11
And said, for this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother and be joined to
17:15
his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.
17:19
Thank you for listening.
